Liebster Award

Aww thanks to Llana of Chic n' Coveted for this award.

I love the idea behind it, The Liebster Award is given to new bloggers by their fellow bloggers as a way to spread the word about other blogs. I love community building! Definitely a great way to build your network and discover new people.

The rules:
  • Answer the 11 questions from the blogger who nominated you.
  • Nominate 11 favourite bloggers who have less than 200 followers
  • Ask 11 new interesting questions to your nominees.

My Answers:

What's the one dream you'd love to achieve no matter what?
Does world domination count? Just kidding, I want to be happy and raise successful children. That sounds cheesey (albeit true). A dream I'd love to achieve no matter what, this is hard, probably to own my own mobile dental unit.

Which fashion magazine is your favourite and why?
Vogue, simply put its a great source of inspiration. I use it for everyday wear and in designs for clothes I sew.

Shoes or handbags?
I was stuck on this one for a while. Every time I thought I made a decision I'd change my mind. But I'll have to say shoes! I love how they can change the feel of an outfit.

If you could design a collection of anything what would your collection be of?
It'd be a line of women's cloths, although I've technically already done that. I'd like it to be on a larger (more professional/skilled) scale. I love incorporating Ankara (African printed fabrics, seen here) into my designs.

Do you prefer to blog about fashion, beauty or lifestyle the most?
I love blogging about fashion! My own as well as that of people and things that inspire me.

What are some career goals you have?
My number one career goal is to become a pediatric dentist, but I also want to design clothes, own my own business, pursue my love of the arts (photography, drawing and painting) and any number of things.

If you had the chance, who would you choose to interview for your blog?
This is something I hadn't thought about, but I'd probably interview all the natural hair "gurus" that I could. That's pretty general but I want to learn more (than I already know) about hair.

Where does your style inspiration come from?
My style is inspired by anything and everything around me. Things and people I see. I'm even inspired by things I don't like, just by seeing how repulsive or unappealing it is it drives me towards what I do like.

What are some goals you have for your blog in 2013?
I want to continue doing what I'm doing, blogging on a regular basis. Bring more OOTDs and trends. But also showcase more of my interest outside of fashion, like with the arts. I have so many interest in general that I'd be a waste not to put them display at one of the most obvious outlets (this blogs) that I have.

Which piece in your closet is your most favourite?
All these difficult questions. Probably a tie between ALL of my Jeffrey Campbell shoes and my velvet D&G blazer.

If you could get anything you're coveting right now what would it be?
This is a good one. In terms of material things I'd like a a pair of every single J. Campbell shoe and a LV Neverfull GM in Damier Azur. But in general I want a puppy and a 27.

  6. What's your most indulgent habit?
  7. Stranded on an island and could only have/save three things what would they be?
  8. Career goals? Are they related to fashion, or is is a passion/hobby?
  9. Did you think the world was going to end on 12/21/12?

Top 5 AHOLICS [10]

~This entry was started the 17th of May~

1. iPads [1st and 2nd Gen]
2. business casual
-button down shirts
-chinos
-blazers
3. prints
4. sewing/designing
5. cake

I'm not much of a techie, but I do love shopping and having new things! I had the first generation iPad and really liked it, but in true Apple fashion the 2nd generation came out not too long after I bought mine. UGH! Which commandment was it to not covet thy neighbor's wife. Well lets just say I was more than a little envious of all the new features. As a PC girl I didn't initially see the point in yet another Apple product littering the technological market.

This hot little number was, in my opinion a large iPod at first. So what was all the buzz? Boy was I wrong. I Can 't speak for everyone but I love mine for the convenience that it brings. I used to have to lug my heavy laptop everywhere, now I can whip out my iPad if I need to check my emails or anything else. To be honest though the one downside, in terms of academic use was the lack of word processing software. [Yes there's an app for that but...eh]. Despite this my "whole life" is on there, my calendar with all my activities, easy Facebook and Twitter access, emails, everything.

If I was to rate it it would get a solid 4 out of 5 [because of price :/ ].

*****RIP S.J.*****

As a recent grad going on interviews and entering the "real world" will become common place. Along with my foray into the professional world my wardrobe must follow too. I've started buying more work appropriate attire from slacks to blazers to button down shirts. To keep with the color blocking trend I bought bright colored items (had to keep things fabulous) from chinos to different colored blazers.

I love PRINTS. They can function as the accessory to any look. Breaking up the boring solids with a print is always a great way to spice up an outfit. I'm not picky when it comes to print, be it animal (can you say CHEETAH) or floral they all are fun and fabulous. In previous posts I spoke about prints matching you stature and that definitely still holds true, especially for all over prints like in a dress. The 70's vibe from earlier in the year is holding strong this fall (but more boho: flared pants, fringe and what not). This trend utilizes print in great ways that will work for many shapes and tastes (blouses, skirts, maxi dresses and skirts, flow-y dresses...) Be sure to choose colors that are more in the jewel tones (the seasons IN colors).

These outfits from Fall 11 have that 70's vibe with some prints in jewel tones.

I'll try not bore you with this one, but I've really taken a liking to sewing and making things for myself (and now others...BABY STEPS). I especially like designing clothes, now that I have more free time I can do more and be more creative. All I need now is a dress form...SO if anyone has an extra one that they're not using I'd be happy to take it off your hands :).
Myself and a model in a swimsuit I made.
The picture above shows you print with that 70's vibe. The pants (customized) and bandeaux top are from F21 .

I love cake! What more is there to say? I wish it was my birthday everyday just so I could have cake, not that I REALLY need a reason to have cake. But it's nice when someone else buys it lol.
Not a fan of frosting.

Circles

So as an African woman, one of the things required of you from birth is that you know how to cook [maybe exaggerated], but cooking is like a life time skill you need to have. It’s like having a four year degree from college, just that this one is a continues process. So of recent my dad has really enjoyed eating pepper soup (some African Dish made with white pepper) and I never knew how to cook it. So every time my dad said he wanted to eat pepper soup I would escape the work by saying I don’t know how to cook it. So yesterday was the D-day. My dad asked to eat pepper soup as usual and my usual response was that I don’t know how to cook it. Well guess what, my mama made me watch while she cooked it, so now I’m a certified pepper soup cooker [sadly]. I don’t get to run away again when next my dad ask to eat pepper soup :(

So I have been having the same phone for two years. I was due for an upgrade in March but I really did like my old phone. It was small and PURPLE. So yesterday I had to let go [twas kinda hard to do] and I got a new phone. I really wanted the LG Optimus S, but I had to settle for the LG Rumor Touch. I guess it’s an upgrade from a keypad to a touch. Still getting used to it though and guess what??????IT’S PURPLE TOO :)

I get annoyed at times when people talk about how bipolar Minnesota weather is, but today I just had to confirm all their thoughts on the bipolarity of Minnesota’s weather. A couple of friends and I had plans to go to lake Calhoun today. Just two days ago it was blazing hot to the extent that the highway got melted, but today when we decide to go to the beach it rains…HOW TIMELY MINNESOTA. Thanks for running my day and letting me hide that non-bikini body for prolly another week. GISSS!!

I feel like I’m talking too much, but just so much happens within the span of two days, which got me thinking…NOT. Well I turned on the TV today and guess what was on?????SMALLVILLE. Last time I saw a complete episode of that show was prolly in high school, which just reminded me of how time passes by really fast. Clark Kent is pretty grown though. He and his cousin Kera were prolly the only two people I could recognize right off the bet…yeah I’m that bad in memory. Well just thought I should say that. Oh and I also watched CSI: NY [Christmas setting] which reminded me of Christmas…I WANT IT TO BE CHRISTMAS ALREADY, real talk. I don’t care about the SNOW, but not so much for the cold though. Well you never know with this MinnesNoWta-Bipolar Weather. DEUCES guys.

MinneSNOWta

This is like a rambling rant...but in my OOTD post I said that i wasn't gonna wear my leather jacket cuz of the cold/snow...turns out ALL of it melted!

Can you believe that, this place is so...I don't even know. If I hadn't seen snow on some cars I wouldn't have believed people that said it had snowed. Lets not forget the fact that it's the MIDDLE OF APRIL. I guess global warming isn't taking a back seat this year.

...for the very first time

For the first time in a long time my parents let me spend the night at someone else's home, and it was in a DIFFERENT TOWN.
I also went out to bars for the first time in my home state. I was also allowed to drive somewhere other than to town for the first time [I live in the country].
It was quite the adventure, and a night filled with firsts.
I'm glad my parents are giving me more freedom, but they have to seeing as I AM 22 years old.

Regardless it was a fun night filled with memories. [And a happy birthday to my Mare-Bear.]

Randomness

But while I'm editing my haul post I realized that I'd only been on Spring Break since Friday [4 days] yet it feels like forever!
I managed to
  • go shopping
  • go to church
  • bar hop
  • do my hair
  • paint my nails
  • revamp my blog
  • revamp my facebook page
  • plan a trip to Chicago
  • mess up my previously clean room
  • call dental clinics about volunteering/shadowing
  • catch up on ANTM
  • finish season 4 of Say Yes to the Dress [*and season 5]
My how time flies.
Anyway back to work.

I got a pickle…

Just been reminiscing about my long gone youth. LOL. At the ripe old age of 20 I'm a self-inflicted geriatric. SOO sad. That saying that “the youth is wasted on the young”, well I’m pretty sure it was directed at me.
But anyway the past two weekends have been pretty uneventful, and this one doesn't look any better. A party Friday [still on the back burner really] and gettin braids Saturday are the only highlights. The days will be filled with OChem and my nights, my DAT practice/review book. FUN. C’est la Vie [does any one remember that song  by B*witched] but yeah.
On the bright side the week is almost over. And the Party of the year is coming up next weekend so that’s good.
Top 5 Aholics’ list is coming up, I’ve just been kinda lazy lately, sorry. And my room is still not clean so no blog bout that yet :(.
I’m out, gotta go eat before my ASL class.
