Circles

So as an African woman, one of the things required of you from birth is that you know how to cook [maybe exaggerated], but cooking is like a life time skill you need to have. It’s like having a four year degree from college, just that this one is a continues process. So of recent my dad has really enjoyed eating pepper soup (some African Dish made with white pepper) and I never knew how to cook it. So every time my dad said he wanted to eat pepper soup I would escape the work by saying I don’t know how to cook it. So yesterday was the D-day. My dad asked to eat pepper soup as usual and my usual response was that I don’t know how to cook it. Well guess what, my mama made me watch while she cooked it, so now I’m a certified pepper soup cooker [sadly]. I don’t get to run away again when next my dad ask to eat pepper soup :(

So I have been having the same phone for two years. I was due for an upgrade in March but I really did like my old phone. It was small and PURPLE. So yesterday I had to let go [twas kinda hard to do] and I got a new phone. I really wanted the LG Optimus S, but I had to settle for the LG Rumor Touch. I guess it’s an upgrade from a keypad to a touch. Still getting used to it though and guess what??????IT’S PURPLE TOO :)

I get annoyed at times when people talk about how bipolar Minnesota weather is, but today I just had to confirm all their thoughts on the bipolarity of Minnesota’s weather. A couple of friends and I had plans to go to lake Calhoun today. Just two days ago it was blazing hot to the extent that the highway got melted, but today when we decide to go to the beach it rains…HOW TIMELY MINNESOTA. Thanks for running my day and letting me hide that non-bikini body for prolly another week. GISSS!!

I feel like I’m talking too much, but just so much happens within the span of two days, which got me thinking…NOT. Well I turned on the TV today and guess what was on?????SMALLVILLE. Last time I saw a complete episode of that show was prolly in high school, which just reminded me of how time passes by really fast. Clark Kent is pretty grown though. He and his cousin Kera were prolly the only two people I could recognize right off the bet…yeah I’m that bad in memory. Well just thought I should say that. Oh and I also watched CSI: NY [Christmas setting] which reminded me of Christmas…I WANT IT TO BE CHRISTMAS ALREADY, real talk. I don’t care about the SNOW, but not so much for the cold though. Well you never know with this MinnesNoWta-Bipolar Weather. DEUCES guys.

Top 5 AHOLICs [7]

My first set of "-aholics" this year, and they are

  1. Netflix
  2. Say Yes to the Dress
  3. Natural Hair Blogs
  4. Thrift Stores
  5. Carmex
The first was a no brainer, I went from 1 Month Free Trial to subscriber. I've always loved Netflix, because my family has been members since forever ago, when the packages were better and cheaper. But my boyfriend and I a couple months ago decided to sign-up for our own account.
I have watched countless movies and TV shows, discovered new faves and reconnected with old ones. All in all a GREAT investment, esp since I can watch it on my TV and on whatever mobile [Wi-fi enabled] device I'm on. I'd definitely recommend it, at least the free trial.
Two thumbs WAAAAAAAAY up.

Say Yes to the Dress, for those who don't know, is a TLC show about a high-end Bridal boutique in NY [Kleinfelds, where I've officially decided I will buy my wedding dress from]. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this show, I've come to the conclusion that I love everything wedding related.
This show is so addicting, I used to watch it on TV and get mad when I missed an episode or if a re-run came on. But now that I have Netflix I can watch all the seasons instantly AMAZING!

Natural Hair Blogs, well I'm natural so obviously reading them is a benefit to me. I can refer to these blogger for info on products, hair styles etc. all without have to inconvenience myself with the whole "trial and error" thing. It's fantastic, plus I meet a lot of new people on the blogs and interacting and learning about other peoples hair journeys is great.
Some that I read and follow faithfully

Number four, what more can I say. I love bargains, and some of the best places to find bargains are at Thrift stores. You can find great things from 80's jewelry, over-sized men's sweaters, vintage wedding dresses and REAL fur coats [sorry PETA] just to name a few. Check out my next haul post for some stuff I picked up recently. You can try:
  • GoodWill
  • Salvation Army
  • St Vincent de Paul [my personal fav]
  • Garage sales
  • and others

Seeing as it's winter, well sort of, dry lips are a problem for me. I hate having dry lips, I can never focus if my lips are chapped and Carmex has been my savior these past couple of weeks [I lost my Cherry Chapstick].
My lab partner told me that the reason Carmex was so addicting was because they put glass fibers into the chapstick preventing other lip balms from working. I'm a little skeptical but you never know these days.

What are some of your latest addictions? What do you think of mine?

LAW & ORDER...says goodbye!!!

After 20 years…NOW you decide to end it….UGH man talk about bad ideas.

I guess the upside is that Criminal Intent, Special Victims Unit, and a new LA spin off will continue, but STILL! :(

I LOVE Law and Order…that’s one show I can count on always being on and that I can watch back to back to back.

This is SOOOO sad.

*side note…speaking of long running shows…does anyone watch Degrassi? Man that show has REALLY changed. LIKE REALLY! I mean I understand that it’s a high school cast so people have to graduate. but i don’t recognize any of the characters. MAN.

Weddings, Weaves & Walking

I'm a big fan of the Style network, Oxygen and channels like that. I love watching all the wedding oriented shows. It gets me excited for MY big day, although I'm no where near getting married yet. That doesn't stop me from getting ideas, and watching others on their special days.

  • Who's Wedding Is It Anyway
  • Bridzillas
  • Wedding Makeover
  • Masters of Reception
  • Say Yes to the Dress (TLC)
  • Platinum Weddings
  • any shows bout [wedding] cakes or other elaborate cake

For the most part everyone make a beautiful bride, but then you might run across some people that are truly unfortunate. Not really that they aren't attractive, but that doesn't help matters. I don't think I can properly describe what I mean without having you see a clip of the shows that I've seen. But either way, brides are beauties and the grooms aren't half bad themselves. There's just something about weddings that touches my heart. I guess despite being so "tough" and cold and unfeeling as I claim deep deep deep DEEP down I'm just a softie <3 [yeah right].

BEFORE [hott]        AFTER [just as hott]

Weaves, I'm only going to touch lightly on this subject, only because you saw a little of my opinion on them in my previous post. I enjoy weaves. I just recently started getting them, I tend to favor braids and kinky twists, but one of my BEST friends does it for me so when I'm in between those styles she hooks me up. I've only really done straight and long weaves, but I want to try shorter ones and even curly.

So remember in my first "anti"-aholic list how I included lists with less than three items. Well walking was how I completed this list because otherwise it would've seriously bugged me, plus I enjoyed the alliteration I'd created in the title. I struggled to come up with a third "W" word that I had been recently enjoying. Luckily I had my brother on had for that one. As a college student walking is an essential to getting by, literally. To get to class, or even the bus if you detest bipedal motion, etc. Being a lazy bum the only [well one of the only ;)] form of exercise I get is from walk/jogging/speed walking to class or the bus. And I've actually come to miss it this past summer, where I've been more lazy than usually (hard to believe I know).

I love how a seemingly random choice of words can turn into a ridiculously long post...but it is the "RAMBLINGS of a self-profess -AHOLIC" and not the "short, sweet and concise musing of a brainiac"

Top 5 AHOLICs [2]

5) Baby shoes

4) Katherine Heigl

3) LMFAO

2) Animated movies

1) "Reality" TV

I'm in NO rush to have children. But I can't help but stop by the baby section in stores. The clothes are sooo adorable. The tiny-ness adds to the cuteness, especially the SHOES! Lol, can you imagine a teeny tiny pair of vans? OMG, heart melting.

katherine_heigl I'm SOO loving Katherine this summer. Love love love her movies. If you haven't seen The Ugly Truth definitely check it out. Such a good movie, it's officially been added to my "Chick Flick Favs" [list idea].

Was watching The Real World Cancun and they were on this past weeks episode. I'd heard them before in one of KanYe West's songs, but never too the time to find out more. But after watching the episode I went to YouTube (of course) and listened to a couple of their songs. LOVE IT! They are so, I don't even know how to describe it. Kick a55? Hmm, can't think of the words now. Just check them out. Even changed my Facebook status to a line from their song I Am NOT a Whore.

I'm a child at heart. I adore Disney movies, Disney Channel Original Movies (aka DCOMs), animated movies, Pixar, etc. I just watched Bolt. Can you guess how I reacted? Yep, LOVED it. I cried a little. Toy Story, The Incredibles, A Bug's Life, Wall-E, those are just a few really good animated movies.

We can't escape it. It's everywhere, and despite being told it's "real" we all know otherwise. REALITY TV, can't get enough. there is nothing like watching other peoples (often messed up lives) to make us feel better about our selves, or envious. Some of us have friends we like to live through, if you're married, your single friends and vise versa, not well off you "rich" friend etc. It happens. And television has brought it into the comfort of our own homes. I LOVE (probably getting tired of that word, but I have a BIG heart lol) Real Housewives of ATL & New Jersey (my favorite right now), The Hills (even though Lauren is leaving), the Real World, America's Next Top Model, just to name a few.

What addictions are you ENJOYING right now?
